Liverwort Sperm
Sperm cells are produced in the male umbrellas of Marchantia
polymorpha. This magnified cross-section shows the male sex organs or
"antheridia" which produce swimming sperm. The sperm rely on rain and soil
moisture to make their way to the female plants.
