Bryophyte Sex
Bryophyte plants develop sex organs that produce sperm
and eggs. The sperm
swim in the soil moisture to reach the egg cells and
fertilise them. A
fertilised egg grows into a new structure called the
sporophyte, which
produces spores. Moss and Liverwort sporophytes can
not live on their own
but are dependent on the mother plant for food to grow
and develop.
