HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Marine Life

Just as plants are the ultimate source of energy for all land animals so are they the source for life in the seas. In 1887, Victor Hensen, a German professor of zoology, divided sea life into three groups:
1. Marine Life: minute, free-floating marine organisms such as diatoms
2. Nekton: free-swimming marine animals such as fish
3. Benthos: plants and animals on the sea floor such as coral and crabs
