Subphylum Basidiomycetes
Most of the larger fleshy fungi seen growing in the
woods are the fruiting bodies of Basidiomycetes which
bear spores on tiny club-shaped hyphae within the
mushroom. These so-called club fungi are thought to have
evolved from the Ascomycetes. Of all the fungi they are
the most complex in structure. Some can be eaten and some
are very poisonous.
