Death Cap Amanita phalloides is a deadly poisonous mushroom. Like other Amanitas it can be recognised by the remains of the universal veil at the base of the stalk and by a skirt-like ring at the top of the stalk under the cap. This upper ring is the remains of another veil which covers the gill surface of the young mushroom. When they age the mushrooms have a nauseating smell. [CH] {AU}
