Family Tridacnidae
Clams have 2 adductor muscles which control the shell and a burrowing foot that is both muscular and powerful.
Clams generally use this foot as an anchor, rarely travelling as other bivalves do.
Usually found in waters with sandy or muddy bottoms they range in size from 0.1mm to 1.2m!
These species include colourful clams such as this Giant Clam, with its blue inner
mantle exposed.
