Chitons
On the
undersurface the chiton has a large flat foot and rudula. The radula is used as a file to
scrape algae and other food off the rocks. These nocturnal animals slowly creep across rocks collecting food. When disturbed
they are able to roll their flexible bodies into a tight ball or squeeze into a small crevice. Chiton are found worldwide.
This is a Mottled Red Chiton, Tonicella marmorea.
