The Comb Jelly, of the Phylum Ctenophora, resembles the jelly fish. All Ctenophores give off light (luminesce) when disturbed. Their oval bodies, 3mm to 1 meter long, are distinguished by 8 comb rows made of very large cilia for swimming. Of the 90 species of marine ctenophore, most are free floaters, suspended in the water. This invertebrate is found in all regions of the ocean, particularly shallow waters near shore. [BM] {EB}
