The Cottonmouth is a large, heavy-bodied snake reaching up to 190cm. This water snake can be seen with its broad head moving well above the water. The Cottonmouth can also be spotted sunning on the rocks. The skin is olive, brown, or black, patterned by rough crossbands. The habitat of the Cottonmouth includes swamps, rivers, lakes, and rice fields. This extremely poisonous species can be found from Virginia to Florida and as far west as Texas. [BM] {AS}
