The beautiful Coast Garter snake is easily recognized by the thick yellow stripe running the length of its body. This yellow stripe is edged on either side by a rust or orange pattern, contrasted with black. This snake mates in the early spring, giving birth to living young between July and September. The Coast Garter snake can be found along the western coast in moist habitats. The range of this species runs from Oregon to central California. [BM] {AS}
