Adders choose dry, sandy habitats and enjoy basking in the sun as many snakes commonly do. They range throughout Europe and Asia. It is the only snake found in Scotland. In cold weather the Adder hibernates, and is able to survive as far north as Finland, beyond the Arctic Circle. Adders kill larger prey by a venomous bite. This bite is rarely fatal to humans.
