Crevice Spiny Lizard

This shy lizard reaches up to 29cm in length. The olive to red scales are large and rough. There is a distinctive black collar and dark crossbands running along the tail. Males are further decorated by blue spots on the throat and belly. Crevice Spiny lizards can be found on rocky outcroppings in arid and semiarid regions of New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. This species feeds primarily on insects and on occasion it will eat flowers or leaves which blow past. [BM] {AS}
