In the morning and afternoon it is quite easy to spot painted turtles as they bask in the sun. It is suggested that these sun worshipping creatures dry out parasites which otherwise infest their bodies. In the northern range Painted turtles hibernate, reemerging only when the water has warmed sufficiently. [BM] {FW}
