Lumpsuckers are also commonly called seahens or henfish for the care this fish exhibits for unhatched eggs. The male lumpsucker fish shows parental devotion to the small eggs, even devotion to the point of death. Aerating the eggs by fanning his tail, the male lumpsucker will stand guard over the eggs as weeks of tides and predators threaten his life.
