Smelt

Smelt are small, slender, silvery blue or green fish. One species of smelt, known as the European smelt can reach lengths of 20 cm. They have large jaws with fine teeth and several larger fangs. European smelt are found in both salt and fresh water from the Seine to the Baltic. The candlefish smelt grows to reach lengths of 30 cm and is found from Alaska to Canada, among the Pacific coast.
