There are many different species of freshwater sunfish. The North American sunfishes share a perch- like appearance and range in size from the largemouth bass weighing 25 lbs, 2.5 ft long, to the smallest sunfish being the banded or mottled sunfish reaching lengths of 4 cm (1.5 in).
