There are approximately 150 species of cod. About one dozen of those cod make up the second most
valuable food fish, preceded by the herring. Cod are large, round bodied fish that can weigh up to 211
lbs, but those sold rarely weight over 25 lbs. Those cod commonly eaten are olive green in colour with silver bellies. There
are 3 dorsal fins and 2 anal fins, with a barbel on the chin just below the mouth. This is a banded rock cod. MORE!
