Tarpon

The tarpon is recognized as one of the most primitive of the true bony fish. It reaches lengths up to 8 ft, has a sharp, symmetrical forked tail, large scales and only one dorsal and anal fin. The tarpon is both freshwater and marine occurring in costal waters of both the subtropical and tropical Atlantic waters and the tropical coastal waters of West Africa. The tarpon is a real fighter and is a favourite of sport fishers. [BM] {FW}
