Electric Eel
The electric eel, not a true member of the eel family, can emit 550 volts of electricity, enough to kill
a horse. The electrical shock usually kills small animals, such as frogs, which the eel consumes. These
long, cylindrical fish found in South America are greenish-brown and can reach lengths of 9.5 ft. The
electric eel tends to live in very stagnant water, low in oxygen. Coming to the surface the electric eel
gulps air.
