The Platy is a small, deep bodied fish favoured by many aquarists. Female platys reach lengths no
larger then 6 cm, with the male slightly smaller. They range in colour and are often mottled. They are
freshwater fish which occur naturally in Mexico and Guatemala. It has been discovered that platys will mate with
swordtails if confined in an aquarium. However in their natural environment there is no evidence of cross breeding.
