Grunion 2
The grunion eggs lie dormant in the sand until the next spring high tide,
when the eggs are washed back into the sea and the young grunion hatch. The grunion are aware of
the day and time of extreme high tide and are able to choreograph a mass exodus to the land and back
to the sea. Of the 150 species of grunion, most are found in tropical and temperate
seas.
