Dugong 3
Breeding takes places at any time of the
year. Gestation lasts 11 months, at which time a single calf is born. The mother, father and calf
remain together. However, there is no paternal care. The mother nurses the calf, holding the young
dugong to her teat. The dwindling numbers of dugong
are found along the tropical coasts of the Pacific Ocean, with increasing numbers off the
northern coast of Australia. Back to Dugong.
