The dugong is a mammal and must breath air. Dugong are known to come on land to eat foliage at the waterline and to sunbathe. The body weight of the dugong, which makes breathing difficult on land, coupled with the possibility of sunburn prohibit the dugong from staying on land for prolonged periods of time. Sea cow is a most appropriate name for this herding mammal as a great deal of time is spent grazing. MORE! [BM] {FW}
