Woodchuck

One of the best known members of the marmot family is the woodchuck. In Canada and the eastern United States much attention is given to the woodchuck on February 2nd. According to folklore, if the woodchuck emerges from its burrow on this day and sees his shadow, he will retreat in fear and there will be 6 more weeks of winter. If, however, the woodchuck does not see his shadow and remains outside his burrow, spring has arrived. MORE! [BM] {FW}
