The female spiny mouse is of considerable interest, noted for her strong maternal instincts. Before the birth of her own offspring, female spiny mice are known to steal and care for the young of another's litter. These maternal urges are so strong the female will even try to groom an adult and hold it in her paws as if it were a baby. The spiny mouse is found in Africa and Asia.
