Rat success can, in part, be attributed to their prolific breeding and unselective diet. At 80 days of age the female rat is sexually mature and can produce 50 young every year. This population is incredibly versatile in their diet, consuming anything including sewage. Occasionally rat populations balloon in a given area necessitating a move to new territory.
