Porcupine 2
This long coat conceals sharp black-tipped spines beneath. The Canadian porcupine has approximately
20,000 spines
which can be released when the animal is threatened. Porcupines do not hibernate. Instead, they feed on a
wide range of vegetation as the seasons dictate. Porcupines have a special passion for salt and will
even eat outhouse toilet seats to acquire the traces of salt
left by human skin! Porcupines are found in the Americas.
