Kangaroo Rat
There are 24 species of kangaroo rats. These small desert rodents share many similarities with
related desert rodents such as the jerboa and kangaroo mouse. Adapted to live in the dry, warm
environment, the kangaroo rat has a leaping gait, the quickest and most efficient mode of
transportation across the desert. Ranging in length from 4 to 8 inches, the kangaroo rat has a long
tail, tufted with fur on the tip, and large eyes. MORE!
