Hutia 2
Reaching approximately
18 inches in length, hutia have stout bodies, short yet strong legs and short tails. Their face
closely resembles that of a rabbit. However, the ears are small and round. These rodents live in
trees and find their safety in holes within the ground. They are often preyed on by introduced
species such as dogs, cats, mongoosees and rats.
