Known to store up food for the winter, poor Asian families will dig up hamster burrows, where up to 100 lbs of seed may be stored. Hamsters will also stuff their cheeks with food, which is often quite entertaining for the pet owner. With large, grossly distended cheeks the hamster appears to waddle on short legs. Hamsters are found from Romania through Asia Minor to Iran. They are found along the Mediterranean to the borders of outer Mongolia. [BM] {FW}
