Although these rats seem rather formidable they are gentle and passive mammals, easily picked up and handled with no fear of attack. Like hamsters, giant rats store food in cheek pouches, cramming in seeds and fruits and nuts until they are distended to twice their normal size. Giant rats are commonly hunted by the African as they are considered a delicacy. The Gambian pouched rat is found in Africa. [BM] {FW}
