There are 20 species of the well armoured armadillo. The largest species of armadillo, the "giant armadillo", reaches 3 ft in length and can weigh 130 lbs. All armadilloes are characterized by the hard bone plated carapace which covers their bodies. In most species this carapace is one solid armour, while in others the armour is constructed of hinged bands, allowing the creature to roll into a ball. MORE! [BM] {FW}
