Black Bear 2
Bears are successful tree
climbers, able to use their powerful claws. Clawed striations in tree bark are a sure sign of bear
territory. Bears are generally harmless, unless (obviously) they are startled, provoked or injured. They feed on
rodents, birds, carrion, fruit and berries. Reaching excessive weight in the autumn, the bear
prepares for a winter sleep. Not true hibernators, bears often wake during winter warm spells. MORE!
