Sea Otter 3

Sea otters commonly float on their backs, only swimming on their bellies when there is a need for speed. The sea otter is able to keep warm, even in cold marine water, by a layer of air that is trapped within its fur. When the water is polluted by various substances, such as oil, otters die of exposure, unable to keep themselves warm. Otters are now only found off the coast of California, Alaska and the Commander and Kurile Islands north of Japan.Back to Sea Otter. [BM] {FW}
