The fur on the marten is soft and thick having 2 separate layers of short hair and long hair which produce a rich colour in the coat. Martens have been persecuted to the brink of extinction in many place for the value of their fur. The diet of the marten includes squirrels, rabbits, birds, eggs, insects and berries.
