Sika 2
A single fawn is born in spring when food is plentiful. The calf is hidden in a thicket where it is safe.
Within several days the calf is able to run well and keep up with the hind, or female deer. Sikas
were once abundant in parts of Asia including China, Korea and Japan. They are now rare in most
of Asia. However, where the species has been introduced in both Europe and the USSR, they are
very successful.
