By submerging in the water the moose is able to find some relief from the swarms of mosquitoes as well as feed on succulent aquatic vegitation. In the winter, moose feed on the soft saplings and bark. The word moose, which is translated from an Algonquin Indian name means wood-eater. Moose are usually solitary, occassionally joining together in winter to feed and of course to mate in September and October. One to three calves are born to a cow. MORE! [BM] {FW}
