Axis Deer 2
Axis deer form large herds and do not separate according to sex as is common with most deer. The herds numbering
several hundred members include stags, hinds and calves. Able to swim well, the axis deer is
commonly found near water in bamboo forests or lowland plains. Axis deer feed both on grass and
on leaves. They are the most common deer in India.
