The physiology of the camel allows
this large desert dweller to survive its inhospitable climate. First, the long legs and neck allow for
a greater surface area from which heat is easily lost. Second, the fur both insulates the camel from
the cold desert nights while it protects the camel from the scorching sun. Third, the eyes are
protected from blowing sand by extremely long, curved eyelashes; for the same reason the nostril
