The musk-ox is protected from the cold by a thick woolly undercoat and long guard hairs. However, when extreme weather dictates the musk-oxen will huddle together, protecting the calves and cows in a circular formation known as a phalanx. This same formation is taken when the musk-ox is threatened. In the case of wolf packs it is quite effective; in the case of a gun, the musk-ox is helpless. MORE! [BM] {FW}
