The largest member of the shark family, the whale shark can reach lengths of 70 ft and weigh 70 tonnes. This beautiful shark has a deep grey or brown ground colour, speckled with white and yellow spots on its head and vertical lines further on its body. The whale shark has tough skin and a very powerful tail. This gentle shark feeds on plankton like the basking shark and has a mouth width of 5 feet, large enough for 2 people to kneel inside!
