Flicker

There are 6 species of flickers; this Yellow-shafted Flicker is feeding her young. The flicker has beautiful plumage decorated with spots and bars. Like most woodpeckers, the flicker eats ants and other insects which it acquires by drilling holes just below the surface of barked trees. The drumming of the flicker can be heard ringing through the open country and lightly wooded areas it habitats in North and Central America. [BM] {FW}
