Swallow-tanager
The swallow-tanager is perhaps one of the most colourful birds of the American tropics. With
two-tone plumage of brilliant blue and green, the male swallow-tanager is breath taking.
The female is green, highlighted by yellow underparts. Reaching approximately 6 inches in
length the tanager has long wings and a slightly hooked, very sharp bill. Living in flocks
the swallow-tanager lives in the humid lowlands of Central and South America. During
breeding season the swallow-tanagers separate from the flock and move to higher elevations.
