Mockingbird
The mockingbird is a relative of the catbird and thrasher; all are members of the family
Mimidae. The mockingbird is best known for its ability to mimic the songs of other birds.
This talent has risen the mockingbird to considerable fame in the United States where it is
the state bird of no less then 5 southern states! Ranging in size from 10 to 12 inches the
northern mockingbird, common in the southern United States, has a long, slender build with
grey plumage, marked by a white collar and white feathers on the wings. Mockingbirds are
also found in Central and South America.
