Java Sparrow
The Java sparrow, once living exclusively on the islands of Java and Bali has been
introduced to other parts of southeast Asia. The largest member of the mannikin family they
reach 5 inches in length, have stout bills and short wings. The plumage is usually warm grey
highlighted by pink undertones on the belly with black tail and rump. The head of the java
sparrow is black with white cheeks and pinkish bill. Java sparrows feed primarily on rice.
