Hawaiian Honeycreeper
There are about 22 species of Hawaiian honeycreepers. These birds have most likely evolved
from a small bird known as a tanager. This is a photograph of a summer tanager. It is
assumed that as tanagers migrated, several were blown off course and came to populate Hawaii.
These new inhabitants adapted to form the nectar drinking species of honeycreeper, now known
as the Hawaiian honeycreeper. MORE!
