Hawaiian Honeycreeper 2
They are 4 to 8 inches in length and appear in a variety of colours including red, yellow,
green, black and grey. Within the last century approximately one-quarter of the Hawaiian
honeycreepers have become extinct. These specialized birds have not been able survive the
removal of forests, new predators and disease introduced through American colonization. The
commercialization of the Hawaiin coast is obvious in this photograph.
