Grosbeak 2
The first bird to be classified as a grosbeak is also commonly known as the hawfinch. The
hawfinch is a shy bird found throughout Europe and into northern Africa, central Asia and on
the islands of Japan. The hawfinch is 6 inches in length and has reddish brown plumage with
greyish-white on the underside. The wings of the hawfinch are highlighted by soft blue and
black patches.
