HELP INDEX NEXT UP PREVIOUS FEEDBACK ATG Crossbill

Sorry, No Picture! The peculiar bird known as the crossbill has a seemingly deformed bill. The upper and lower mandibles cross over in an odd fashion. The overall appearance of the crossbill is reminiscent on the parrot. However, crossbills are quite small. There are 3 species of crossbills--the common crossbill, the parrot crossbill and the two-barred crossbill. The male crossbill has brownish-red plumage with black markings on the wings and tail. The female crossbill has olive to yellow plumage. Crossbills are found around the world wherever there are cone bearing coniferous forests. [BM] {FW}
