Cock-of-the-Rock
There are 2 species of Cock-of-the-Rock birds in South America. These rare birds are
extremely ornate with outstanding crests and wattles. Both species are approximately 1 foot
in length, with short tail and strong body. The male orange cock-of-the-rock is
predominantly orange, while the male Peruvian cock-of-the-rock is red with black marks on
the wings and tail. The female birds of both species are brown. Found along the Amazon
basin, the cock-of-the-rock lives in the lower level of the forest as opposed to the
canopy.
